10 random things I’ve learnt from my exchange here

1) From all Americans: That “Awesome” is the most abused word for Americans. “Like” and “You know” are strong competitors though.

2) From speaking to everyone: How grateful I am that I speak pretty decent English. I would like to think the only people who speak better English than us should be the British.

3) From Yuko: Using the word “Jap” is actually derogatory to the Japanese people.

4) From my crazy Romanian roomie: How to say Nicolae Ceausescu the correct way in Romanian (if you dunno who he is, you haven’t studied upper sec history).

5) From the French: That “Putain” is a very common cuss word for the French. It means “whore”.

6) From the Koreans: That good Kimchi is very hard to make and can practically only be found in Korea.

7) From the Serbian and Montenegrans: That Serbian is spoken with an Italian accent although it’s a Balkan language (think Russian).

8) From Jan: That German people value punctuality and efficiency a lot. Down to the last sec.

9) From Zeinab: That Iraqis actually want John McCain to win the presidential election because they don’t want the Americans to pull out of Iraq soon due to the instability of the country.

10) From Marina and Anton: That the Russian accent is actually much softer than the fake, rough ones you see on Hollywood movies and on TV where every Russian is a bad guy.

FYI: 5 more days left in Laws Hall. The End is very near...
