Less than a month from the start of the Beijing Olympics. So I thought I'll share this with you. I think it's a pretty decent video, considering it's a China-made product. Still a little propaganda-ish, but that's to be expected. The English lyrics translation also has room for more improvement, but I don't blame the person because the complex nature of the Chinese language means that bland English is not a very suitable language to translate into. You'll know what I mean if you speak both languages and listen carefully to the Chinese lyrics in the video. But they even got artistes from different countries to sing in it, including Singapore's very own Stefanie Sun, JJ Lin and Ah Du, and ABCs like Wang Lee Hom. So I think it was still a pretty good effort by the Chinese government to use soft-sell to promote the Olympics.
I think it's sad that this Olympics is still so politically-controversial, and that politics have played such a major part in it. Call me an idealist, but isn't the vision of the Olympics is for sports to transcend all, including petty and ugly politics? I understand that the human rights in Tibet is to be deplored, but can't they do it in a proper stage, away from the Olympics? Imagine the sportsmen and women around the world who had trained so hard for this, only to be called to boycott their dream event. It just isn't fair. Politics and Olympics just don't go well together. Just look at what happened in Melbourne, Moscow, LA, Mexico, Berlin and Atlanta. And I don't have to remind you of Munich as well. Calling for a boycott to the Olympics dosen't serve anything other than to shatter the dreams of the sports people.
