Blame it on the weatherman

The weather in Missouri is very fascinating, to the point of being freakish. On Tuesday, it started out nice and sunny in the morning at 8am. I think it was the warmest weather I've experienced here so far, which was around 23 degrees C. By afternoon at around noon, the temperature has dropped to around 0 degrees C and by the evening it was at least -7 degrees C. So I started off feeling happy about feeling the sun on my face in the morning to being depressed about the winter chill while walking back miserably from class in the evening that day. Now I know why people get very engrossed in watching just the weather channel the whole day. I think if the weathermen from Missouri came to Singapore they will be bored out of their wits by our weather.

And last night was fun because it snowed very heavily and yet it wasn't as cold. There was no wind as it's usually the wind that kills you or makes my nose freeze. So alot of people were having fun in the snow outside last night. Cecile the french girl came knockinbg on my door asking me if I want to "slide" and I looked at her weirdly before finally realising that she and a few others were planning to go out and slide around the 7-inch snow.

I caught this lil' fella looking aound the snow for acorns while walking to photojourn class this morning.

However, the down side to this cranky weather is that everyone seems to be falling sick with cough or flu. Including me. I think the flu jab I took in NTU was a waste of money. At least half of the people in my classes are coughing or sneezing away and even two of my professors are sick. But I am much better now and I'm on the road to recovery so everything's fine.

Anyway, we went to catch a basketball game on Wednesday and although we lost 62-66 to Nebraka it was pretty exciting as the audience was very enthusiatic about supporting the Mizzou Tigers.

Slam dunk!

"Allez Mizzou!" yelled French students Cecile (left) and Widade.

So yep, that sums up about all the major events of this week, which is nothing much I know. But I am getting more trigger-happy recently, so I have more pictures! The main reason is that I just discovered that I can borrow almost any lens from the photojourn department here, which is arguably one of the world's best, if not the best, photojourn department.

So I borrowed a 50mm prime for my portraits assignment (major stress!) due next week and they imagine this, the lousiest Nikon camera they have here is the D80, which is my camera and that makes me feel so small. They even have a couple of Canon Mark III and Nikon D3 for us to try! And they got them all for free from Canon and Nikon because almost alot of the photojournalists who graduated there become very famous photogrpahers around the world in press agencies like Reuters, AP, National Geographic, etc. So yes, I shall try out the lenses here and then work my way to the high-end camera bodies. Wheeee....

This is a random pic. I just had to show my mummy this picture of this endless row of ice-cream they have at Walmart. I think America is not a place to live for diabetics.

I have more pictures, but I don't trust blogger to handle my massive picture file sizes, so pop over to my Flickr account for more. I will be uploading more when black and white photos there since I have to submit my photos in b&w for my photojourn assignments. So practice makes perfect.
