"Freedom's just another word for nothing left to lose."

A shoutout to all the singer-songwriters out there. While Singapore Idol bores me to tears, American Idol is actually pretty entertaining for me. And it's a great way to discover great songs. I never knew Kara DioGuardi is such a awesome singer and songwriter until I saw one of this season's Idol contestant Didi Benami sang this song that was written by DioGuardi during Hollywood week in the earlier rounds.

Beautiful lyrics and just a wonderful song to listen to (fast forward to the second min):

And Idol contestant Crystal Bowersox's latest performance of Janis Joplin's Me and Bobby McGee (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C5jrYI0jlHk) totally blew my mind away. Why can't all singers just sing like these people? Put their heart and soul into a song, minus all the dancing, gimmicks and fancy costumes (sorry Adam Lambert...). I mean, call me a purist or whatever, but really, if you want to have all the fancy stuff, at least be able to sing first. Too much sleek marketing in the music scene these days. Just go back to the basics already and let people who can sing, sing.
